Tucked a little north of Anderson Road southwest and just south of Southland Drive southwest lies the residential neighborhood of Braeside. With a population of a little over 6,000 people, this community is conveniently located in an area with access to all the recreational activities offered by Fish Creek Provincial Park and the Glenmore Reservoir. The city’s bike path is within walking distance of Braeside and the diverse real estate in the area include single-family bungalows, condominiums, apartment complexes, and split-level homes.
Braeside elementary school students are served by Braeside elementary. Upon leaving elementary, they are then assigned to John Ware junior high and then, Henry Wise Wood high school which is situated just north of the community. Catholic students of the area are also served by St. Benedict elementary school, St. Cyril junior high, St. Matthew junior high, and finally, Bishop Grandin high school.
There are two strip malls in the neighborhood covering a lot of your amenities. The larger of the two shopping complexes is on Southland Drive and is home to Shoppers Drug Mart as well as several smaller retail and dining outfits. The second facility is nestled in the corner of 24th street and Braeside Drive, and is home to a Tim Horton’s, a KFC, a Subway sandwich shop, and a string of smaller retail outfits.
Transportation is always within walking distance in Braeside as not only are there bus stops lining 24th street and Southland Drive but there is also a collection of pick-ups stationed along Braeside Drive. These provide easy access to the rest of the city which is always only minutes away.
Braeside is home to seniors and families alike, and along with its’ convenient location, has become known for being one of Calgary’s more peaceful communities.
This quiet residential neighborhood now has been fully developed into one of Calgary’s many fine family-oriented communities.
