Map of Cougar Ridge

To the far western edge of the city, with the Paskapoo Slopes and the Canada Olympic Park to the north and bounded by 69th street west, 101 street west, and Old Banff Coach road, is Cougar Ridge, a small community of no more than 6,000 residents. The opportunity to explore some of Calgary’s green space, and offering beautiful views of the cityscape and the mountains, Cougar Ridge is one of the newer communities in greater Calgary. It’s only ten years old. The Calgary French and International school recently opened their $12 million dollar campus right beside the neighborhood and literally, right in its’ backyard, are ski jumps extremely familiar to the city of Calgary as these were the ones we became accustomed to seeing in the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Wildwood elementary, Vincent Massey junior high, and Ernest Manning senior high school serve the public school students well while the Catholic school students that reside in the area are designated to attend the St. Joan of Arc elementary and junior high, St. Michael junior high, and Bishop Carroll senior high school or St. Mary’s senior high school. All of these schools are located relatively near to Cougar Ridge. No long bus trips required for this region.

Amenities are plentiful. You have nature every which way you look and the Rocky Mountains are only a short 45-minute drive from here. Cougar Ridge is strategically located only minutes away from the West Market, Strathcona Square, and Mount Royal University. There is also a brand new LRT line under construction nearby. In the meantime, the West LRT provides a fast commute from the community to downtown within minutes.

Calgary Transit also has stops that line Cougar Ridge Drive southwest and Old Banff Coach road.

The Canada Olympic Park to the north offers 25 kilometres biking trails that allow Calgary’s mountain bikers to go exploring day-in and day-out.

The Cougar Ridge area is also the home to a 45-acre park and a preserved wetlands area.

Cougar Ridge continues to attract attention from home buyers due to its’ seclusion, its’ “beauty in nature” thematic approach, and for its’ easy commute from downtown Calgary. The community is worth far more than a look but what a look will get you is the opportunity to see a community not yet at its’ peak.
