Established in the mid 1980’s, this area was developed and designed to make use of the unique natural landscape of the Bow River escarpment. Combined, the communities of Douglasdale and DouglasGlen are home to about 12,000 residents. DouglasGlen has the newest homes in the area, with over 200 homes already built.  

Access from Macleod Trail is via the Anderson Road SE, Bowbottom Trail, Deerfoot Trail interchange.  Deerfoot Trail provides easy access to downtown and the Calgary International Airport. While there is not yet LRT service to Douglasglen there is good public transit with a Bus Rapid Transit Station that has plenty of parking.

There are a number of designated schools for families in the public, Catholic and French immersion systems. Elementary schools include, Douglasdale, R.T. Alderman, Msgr. J.S. Smith, Sam Livingston (Fr.) and St. Cecelia (Fr.). Junior high students can attend R.T. Alderman, Msgr. J.S. Smith, Ecole St. Matthew or Fairview (Fr.). Options for senior high school are Lord Beaverbrook, Bishop Grandin, or Dr. E.P. Scarlett (Fr.).

It is important to any community to have good access to health care. Calgary’s newest hospital, the South Health Campus serves southeast Calgary communities and surrounding areas and has begun its phased opening of programs and services and will be fully operational later this year.

There is good shopping and services nearby that include Southcentre Mall with over 190 shops and services, Douglas Square at Deerfoot in neighboring McKenzie Lake and a smaller strip mall at McKenzie Towne. There are over 150 businesses located within Douglasdale/DouglasGlen.

DouglasGlen’s proximity to Fish Creek Provincial Park and the Bow River escarpment provides fabulous year round recreation with over 20 square kilometres of natural green space and hiking and biking trails. The park also encompasses Lake Sikome and fully connects to Calgary’s extensive recreational pathway system via a pedestrian bridge just south of the Deerfoot Trail Bridge. Area residents can also enjoy the convenience of the Douglasdale Estates Golf Club, a challenging 18 hole par 60 golf course that winds its way through the entire Douglasdale Estates community.

The Douglasdale/Douglasglen community association is very active and facilitates local sports programs including soccer, basketball as well as programs for teens.
