Map of Fairview

Fairview is one southeast Calgary’s older, more established communities and was annexed by the city in 1956. Tucked conveniently between Macleod Trail on the west side, Glenmore Trail to the north and the Bow River to the east, Fairview’s central location makes access to every quadrant of the city quick and easy. With a population of roughly 3,600, Fairview is relatively small compared to other Calgary communities and has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere which makes it very popular with young families. The western portion of Fairview is primarily residential and is mostly made up of single detached homes with generously sized back yards. Public transit from Fairview is excellent with its proximity to so many major transportation routes and there is an LRT station at Heritage Drive on the south perimeter of the community. East Fairview (south of Glenmore Tr., west of Deerfoot Tr., east of Blackfoot Tr.) is an evolving industrial park with some retail development.

The community is served by Fairview Bilingual Elementary & Junior High public school as well as the West Island Private College. There are numerous designated schools at all three levels located outside the community in the public, Catholic and French streams. Listings of these schools can be found here.

Amenities abound for Fairview residents! Chinook Centre is a stone’s throw away with over 250 shops, professional building and a huge theatre complex. Costco and Ikea are within minutes, plus, Macleod Trail offers access to endless shopping choices. The Rockyview Hospital is the closest full service hospital to Fairview, on 14th St. S.W., just north of Heritage Drive. Other health facilities include the Acadia Fairview Medical Clinic on Fairmount Drive. Fairview has plenty of green space including an off-leash dog park, Flint Park, just off Fairmount Drive. For those wanting to venture a little further to Fish Creek Provincial Park, it’s a short drive away, offering miles and miles of walking and biking trails and other great facilities.

Fairview was voted one of “Calgary’s Best Neighborhoods” for 2012 in a reader survey conducted by a Calgary magazine. With all of these perks and low taxes, the desirability of this charming community is not surprising !
