Map of Garrison Woods

First established in 1998 with development being completed in 2004, Garrison Woods is a small community of some 1,600 townhouses, single-detached homes, apartment buildings, and semi-detached family homes. Found only seven minutes away from the downtown area, the neighborhood is pedestrian-oriented with many green spaces and parks within walking distance. Built on land formerly occupied by the Canadian military, Garrison Woods pays tribute to its’ heritage through a military theme that can be found in its’ architecture, street names, and park monuments. The community is populated with local shopping opportunities, coffee shops, and restaurants. All of its’ residents live within a five minute walk of a bus stop, a two minute walk of a park, and have a wide range of amenities available to them.

Altadore elementary, Mount Royal junior high, and Central Memorial senior high school are designated for the public school students of Garrison Woods. Meanwhile, Catholic school students regularly attend the nearby St. James elementary and junior high school, and Bishop Carroll senior high school. There are also a handful of private schools located surrounding the nearby neighborhood of Altadore.

There are a # of smaller businesses in the North of the community along 33 Avenue that serve Garrison Woods well – restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Follow the Crowchild Trail and the trendy 17th Avenue district is located just a little north. There are many recreational amenities including dozens of trails to walk, hike, and cycle along. The Glenmore Reservoir is only a couple of communities over allowing Garrison Woods’ residents to explore what it has to offer.

Transportation is never an issue for this community that sits east of the Crowchild Trail.

Calgary Transit, with frequent stop times, has regular pick-up along the Crowchild Trail as well as 33 Avenue and 20th street.

Garrison Woods is a well-designed, well-proportioned, and well-sectioned community with a more interesting streetscape than a lot of the other communities. Built primarily in the style of a 1920’s pedestrian-based neighborhood, Garrison Woods is a quiet community that wears its’ past on its’ sleeve as it continues to barrel its’ way into the future of urban Calgary.
