Located in the beautiful Bow River Valley of southeast Calgary, Chaparral features a 32 acre artificial lake with two waterfalls and 21 acres of natural green space. Chapparal, established in 1995, is named for the meditarranean climate biome. It is bordered by Marquis de Lorne Trail to the north, the Bow River to the east and Macleod Trail to the West. Chapparal offers a range of properties from affordable starter homes to estate homes with lake front lots.  The majority of housing are detached homes.

Access to downtown Calgary is via Macleod Trail and Deerfoot Trail. Calgary Transit’s extensive LRT system makes commuting to downtown, SAIT and the University of Calgary convenient with stations at Fish Creek, Shawnessy and Bridlewood/Somerset. This popular, family- oriented  neighborhood has a population of roughly 8,000 and has one public elementary school, Chaparral Elementary School and one Catholic elementary school, Saint Sebastian Elementary School. There are numerous choices for out-of-district designated schools in the public, Catholic and French immersion systems. Elementary students have access to Fish Creek, Mother Teresa, St. Sebastian and St. Cecelia (Fr.). Junior high school students may attend Midsun, Ecole St. Matthew, Father James Whelihan and Fairview (Fr.). Designated senior high schools are Centennial, Bishop O’Byrne and Dr. E.P. Scarlett (Fr.).

Calgary’s newest hospital, the South Health Campus serves southeast Calgary communities and surrounding areas and has begun its phased opening of programs and services and will be fully operational later this year. The nearest shopping centres include Southcentre Shopping Centre with over 190 stores and services, Midnapore Mall, the upscale Avenida Shopping Centre and the Shops at Shawnessy so there is no shortage of amenities for Chapparal residents. A variety of year round recreation opportunities abound in Chapparal that include facilities for fishing, boating, skating and is a haven for recreational diving. The lake was used as a venue for the 1997 World Police and Fire Games! These amenities are available to homeowners for a fee that is paid to the Chapparal Community Resident’s Association that operates the facility.

  In close proximity to Chapparal is the extensive Bow River pathway system and the Fish Creek Provincial Park providing over 20 square kilometres of protected natural green space and an abundance of walking and biking trails. Residents can now enjoy a round of golf at the Blue Devil Club, conveniently located on 194th Ave SE in the Fish Creek Park river valley. Chapperal has an active volunteer run community association for residents that supports local organized sports, community and social programs as well as liaising with local government to represent the concerns of the community on issues such as land use development, transportation, education and infrastructure.
