Map of Lynnwood

This little “jewel” of Lynnwood, situated in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, comprises part of Millican- Ogden. Located on the western escarpment of the Bow River, Lynnwood lays claim to some of the best views of downtown Calgary and the Rocky Mountains.  Established in 1912, this cluster of neighborhoods is one of the city’s oldest communities and was once known as the historic town of Ogden. The Ogden Shops gained infamy by being the only Canadian Pacific Railway repair shop between Winnipeg and Vancouver in the early 1900’s.

It is no surprise then, with its long history that there are many vintage homes in Lynnwood. Single family dwellings make up the majority of homeownership here.  About 20% of housing is apartments and condominiums. Lynnwood has plenty of green space and numerous parks, particularly with its close proximity to the Bow River Valley and the extensive Bow River pathway system, as well as Beaver Dam Flats. There is an outdoor community pool and the Jack Setter’s Arena that provide even more recreation opportunities for residents.

The area has numerous restaurants and strip malls for convenient local dining and shopping.  Bounded on the west by Deerfoot Trail and on the south by Glenmore Trail, Lynnwood is close to major transportation routes providing quick and easy access to other parts of the city for those who want to venture out to larger shopping centres, big box stores and other amenities.

Lynnwood is part of the Millican-Ogden community association which offers a variety of innovative services. The Main Hall and a Sports & Event Lounge are available for private rental. Children’s Jelly Bean dances, public skating swim lessons, teen & family swim are some of the variety of activities offered by the community, as well as annual events and celebrations that bring residents together in a fun, friendly atmosphere. There is also a family resource centre that offers many programs and services including playgroups, parenting classes, an emergency food bank and employment support.

There are three public and Catholic schools serving the community. They are: Banting & Best Elementary School, Sherwood Community School and St. Bernadette Elementary School. There are a number of designated out -of-district schools for families as well.  Listings for public, Catholic and French immersion schools at all levels for Lynnwood can be found here

This area of southeast Calgary is positioned for dramatic change as the former Imperial Oil Refinery is reclaimed into a regional park, and the pending approval and financing of the proposed Southeast Transitway (SETWAY ), thus making significant improvements to many southeast communities, making them all the more desirable to future homebuyers.
