Map of Mckenzie Towne

McKenzie Towne is one of Calgary’s newer southeast communities and was designed with a clear philosophy in mind: to build a modern, small town with all the features and amenities of an established neighborhood; tree lined boulevards, shops and services, schools, churches, parks plus a variety of housing options. McKenzie Towne has captured all this and more! Development began in 1995, and with a population of just over 16,000, McKenzie Towne now has four distinct areas: InvernessElginPrestwick, and High Street, each with its own individual architectural style. McKenzie Towne offers an eclectic mix of housing options; single family homes apartments, condos and townhomes, all with unique architectural designs and features like back lane garages and wide front porches.

The main street commercial area is McKenzie Towne’s High Street. With architecture characteristic of a small town, it features historic community buildings and street front shops and services ranging from small retail businesses to mid-size commercial buildings, including a major grocery store and larger retail outlets.

There is plenty of convenient shopping available outside McKenzie Towne. Cranston Corner and Cranston Market, just south of Marquis of Lorne Trail, both have shops, services and other amenities.

The new development of Seton, south of neighboring Auburn Bay, will (when complete),  provide retail and office space as well as a regional park. It is also home to Calgary’s newest hospital, the South Health Campus, a full service hospital and health care facility.

McKenzie Towne is bordered on the west by Deerfoot Trail, on the south by Marquis of Lorne Trail (Highway 22x) on the east by 52 St. S.E., and 130th Ave. to the north. Deerfoot Trail provides the most direct access to McKenzie Towne. Currently, there is no direct LRT access to McKenzie Towne however there is excellent bus service to the southernmost LRT stations. The community provides shuttle bus service to and from downtown on weekdays.

Mckenzie Towne was designed to be pedestrian friendly and has an abundance of pathways and plentiful green space. The community offers many recreational features including a private outdoor park, a fountain, splash- park and a number of ponds. The McKenzie Towne Homeowners Association manages the McKenzie Towne Hall which has meeting and banquet facilities as well as a gymnasium.

Other recreation opportunities include close proximity to several public, private and semi- private golf courses. McKenzie Meadows Golf Club, an 18-hole public course, is nearby on McKenzie Meadows Drive. Fish Creek Provincial Park, just east of McKenzie Towne, offers year round recreation and miles of hiking and biking trails as well as wonderful wildlife viewing.

McKenzie Towne Elementary School and St. Albert the Great Elementary and Junior High School are the two local schools that serve the community.
