Queensland is a well- established southeast Calgary community (2011) overlooking the Bow River. It is also referred to as Queensland Downs and contains the small neighborhood of Diamond Cove. Established in the early 1970’s, affordable Queensland is made up of mostly single detached homes with prices averaging around $330,000. There are stylish and reasonably priced townhomes and condos as well, around the $257,000 range.
Anderson Road and Deerfoot Trail border Queensland to the north, Canyon Meadows Drive to the south, Bow Bottom Trail to the west and beautiful Fish Creek Provincial Park and the Bow River border Queensland to the east. Calgary city centre is a mere 10 kilometres away via major transportation routes, making travel in and out of the community quick and painless. There is excellent public transit with nearby LRT stations providing easy commutes to downtown, the University of Calgary and SAIT.
Queensland is a quiet community of 5000, blessed with expansive views of the Bow River Valley and access to countless recreational opportunities with Fish Creek Provincial Park nearby, and the extensive Bow River pathway system that’s conveniently linked to the community by a pedestrian bridge. The Queensland Community Association also provides recreational facilities to Queensland residents including tennis courts, sports fields and an outdoor skating rink. The Queensland community centre has meeting rooms, a gym and offers a number of programs fitness and sports programs, a preschool, seniors programs and even a youth justice program.
There are three public schools that serve Queensland; Haultain Memorial Elementary, Queensland Downs Elementary and Wilma Hansen Junior High School. Other designated elementary and junior high schools include: Don Bosco and St. Cecelia (Fr.), Fairview (Fr,) and Ecole St. Matthew. Senior high school students may attend Lord Beaverbrook, Dr. E.P. Scarlett (Fr.) and Bishop Grandin.
Queensland has excellent access to shopping and other amenities. The small Deer Valley Mall is close by and offers a variety of shops and services. Southcentre Mall, with over 120 shops and services is the nearest major shopping centre on Anderson Road, and the upscale Avenida mall is minutes away in Lake Bonavista.
