One of Calgary’s popular “lake” communities, Sundance is a terrific family-oriented southeast Calgary residential neighborhood, completely designed around the man-made Sundance Lake. Residential development began here in the 1980s making it one of Calgary’s newer communities. The population of Sundance in 2011 was 10,623. Fish Creek Provincial Park borders Sundance to the north and east, Marquis of Lorne Trail (Highway 22x) to the south, and Macleod Trail to the west. With two convenient LRT stations at Shawnessy and Somerset, Sundance is ideal for commuters working in the downtown core.

Sundance offers a large range of housing and pricing, from 2 storey homes, split levels and bungalows, to duplexes, townhouses and condominiums. There are also a number of luxury townhome condominiums and detached homes featuring lakefront lots with private docks. Some Sundance properties back directly onto the escarpment of Fish Creek Provincial Park providing immediate access to endless recreational opportunities. The average price for a single-family home in Sundance ranges between $450,000 and $650,000. Larger lakefront properties can run upwards of $1.5 million.

Lake Sundance is a 33 acre manmade lake with adjoining park and provides much of the recreation for community residents year round. In summer, there’s tennis, fishing, boating, scuba diving and even windsurfing, and in winter, there is skating and tobogganing. Use of the park and lake are exclusive to members and their guests. Lake fees are mandatory and, for most homes are very reasonable at $210.00 plus GST per year. Homeowners with lakefront properties pay a higher annual fee at around $285.00 plus GST annually.

Fish Creek Provincial Park offers year round recreational opportunities for Sundance residents and is just minutes away in either direction from most homes and links to the extensive Bow River pathway system to the east. It’s also just a short walk to the beach at Sikome Lake. Beautiful Bragg Creek and Kananaskis Country are less than an hour away with via Marquis of Lorne Trail (Hiqhway 22x).

There are several  18 hole public and private golf courses nearby for the golf enthusiast; Maple Ridge, Shaw-Nee Slopes, McKenzie Meadows and Willow Park Golf and Country Club.

Sundance is served by several schools, all within walking distance: Sundance Elementary (Fr.), Fish Creek Elementary, MidSun Junior High School Centennial High School Father James Whelihan Elementary & Junior High School and Mother Theresa Elementary. The Midnapore Mall provides shopping amenities for Sundance residents, and the larger Shawnessy Towne Centre offers a broader assortment of shops and services. Macleod Trail has a huge range of big box stores, restaurants and theatres for even more variety. Southecentre Mall is the nearest large shopping centre, just north on Anderson Rd, and there is also the upscale Avenida Mall north of Fish Creek.

As part of the Mid-Sun community, Sundance and neighboring Midnapore are served by the same community association. They share a large community centre that offers such programs as out of school and preschool programs, Tae Kwan Do, drama, badminton and school dances. Mid-Sun holds regular town hall meetings at the centre, and hosts special events such as Canada Day at one of the community lakes.
